We are finding the audio engineers in the more recent films are really starting to make great use of the Atmos height speakers, so our suggestion is to go as big as will fit with your set up or budget. I'm using a light gray cotton screen, stretched, with a loose black terry backer as a light trap. Very minimal impact on the sound - at least, I've got far worse problems that any impact caused by the screen are going to be so minimal as to not exist... Will the screen be blocking the sound enough to affect quality? The screen material is obviously much thicker than the fabric grill used on the speaker itself. My room is 12×10 so quite small but couch is more than two feet away from rear wall so can do 7.1.
It’s a bit more difficult when the couch is directly against the wall. You don’t want the sound directly in your ears or otherwise aimed at your head. You’ll want elevated speakers (wall-mounted) if you have a high-back couch. Also, you only want to go with 7.1, if you have room (at least 2-3 feet) behind your couch.

The same thing might also apply to elevation Atmos speakers if your main speaker brand does not make elevation Atmos speakers. It also used to be that producers were not sending a lot of big effects and full range information to the surround channels. Your home theater receiver or processor will typically let you set the frequency cut off for each set of speakers. Sending low bass information to the subwoofer instead of the speakers has two benefits. The subwoofer is specifically designed for low frequencies and will usually do a better job at reproducing the deep bass.
How to Choose the Best Home Theater Receiver
Your surrounds should both be the same distance back from the front of the room as opposed to having one be closer to the television than another. My top recommendation for an acoustically transparent screen is theFixed Frame Screen with a Woven Acoustic Material by Silver Ticket Products. This can misalign the pixel line and texture pattern enough to fix the issue.
Once the material is tight and secured into place, finish the frame assembly and mount it on the wall. As long as your projector has around 1500+ lumens, then you should be perfectly fine with a gain of 1 – 1.2, as long as there isn’t a ton of light entering the room. Gain really isn’t that big of a deal as long as the projector can produce plenty of light.

That is, the bottom of the screen is a 1/3 of the way from the floor, leaving two thirds of the screen area within comfortable viewing height. Actually, there are many theater designers who disagree with you here. The argument being that your ears have better localization abilities from below than from above (humans being eated by birds and giraffes? unlikely... ).
When voices or soundtracks pan across the front, this makes everything totally seamless. The projector screen gain is a measurement of how well the screen reflects light. This is the actual texture of my projector screen.A perforated projector screen is made of a very strong material with thousands of very small perforated holes in it. Essentially there’s a ridiculous amount of holes poked in the material which allows sound to pass through the screen.
The first digit is the number of speakers that are at ear level. The final digit is the number of Dolby Atmos height speakers in the system. We are finishing our basement in the next few months and I need to decide on placement of my in-wall speakers.
Meters work well, but you want to make sure movies sound “right” and you “feel” the bass in your gut. If your room is closed off from the rest of the house—excellent. If not, then set the “boundaries” for the home theater space. A dedicated room always works best, but you can certainly design a home theater around a shared space. The reason for this is that, for movies, surround speakers are meant to be ambient-supplying sources for effects and backgrounds, with the occasional point-source effect. You could do tower speakers behind a screen, but it will probably be a lot more difficult to do. You'd have to have the projector screen off of the wall or find a way to get the large tower speakers inside of the wall. It’s available from 92 inches all the way up to 150 inches. The frame uses two adjustable vertical support beams which allow you to move them out of the direct line of the speakers behind the projector screen.

If the resolutions match up and the build quality of the screen is good, then you should be okay. If you do experience the moiré effect, you can possibly eliminate it by adjusting the zoom/focus of the projector. The cause of the moiré effect is either the projector screen or the projected image.
To calculate the widest screen size possible, take the distance from the projector placement to the screen divided by the throw ratio. A 4K (3840×2160) projector has 3840 pixel lines running horizontally and 2160 pixels lines running vertically. A 4K projector’s pixel lines are more likely to match a projector screen’s pattern because of sheer volume. The material is typically made of a very strong PVC with holes that are usually less than .3mm in diameter.
This should be doable with a budget of less than $200, as long as you have all of the tools necessary. In general, woven projector screens do a pretty good job of allowing sound to pass through while blocking light from passing through the screen. However, there are a few issues that can occur with woven screens. There are tons of options for both woven and perforated projector screens out on the market.
Get at least 12-gauge speaker wire for your mains and surrounds, and be sure you don’t forget to plan for a remote control system. If you want to run anything with IR, place a receiver at the front of the room. If you’re using a control system, then just make sure you’ve accounted for everything that needs to be connected to your home’s network.
